Pharos Project for Rating Green Building Materials and How They Relate to Environmental Health and Justice
Pharos FrameworkPharos Project is striving to make building material evaluations as comprehensive as possible – encompassing health, resources and social justice issues throughout the life cycle. Framework categories include Health & Pollution; Resources Issues; Social and Community, including Trends,Social Issues, Alternatives, and overviews of Specific Products.ProductsThis section of the PharosWiki discusses product groups (such as carpet) and specific products (such as Acme's EverKleen carpet tile). For each product group and product they pull together and compare information on the health, resources and social justice issues with each of them, consider manufacturer claims and independent information and experiences.Materials and ChemicalsA wide range of environmental health policies of local and national governments, as well as international treaties, have identified a set of chemicals that warrant efforts to eliminate their use due to their high toxicity and global impact. PharosWiki discusses the materials and chemicals that make up the building materials we use. They also pull together information on the health, resources and social justice issues with each of them, consider alternatives and make comparisons.Labels and StandardsPages in this section will discuss a range of "green labels" and "third-party certification systems" (such as Green Seal), "standards" and "rating systems," providing a place for the user community to discuss what they cover and what they don’t, what the criteria are, and evaluate whether the standard effectively signals green materials/products or instead results in green washing within the marketplace.
