Tools for Enhancing Credit and Lowering Costs for Environmental Programs and Projects

Environmental protection needs and expectations are continuing to grow, while the resources available to meet those needs and expectations are increasingly constrained at all levels of government. Federal, state and local governments and the private sector are exploring the use of more efficient, effective, and innovative solutions to help address these major challenges.

A new "green" master's of business administration program at Dominican University helped bring an Environmental Finance Center to the San Rafael campus, as well as a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency grant to run the center. The $222,000 federal grant will help support several environmental initiatives to be run out of the new center. The school's "green" MBA program is scheduled to begin fall, 2008 with an emphasis on sustainability.

EPA's Environmental Finance Program (EFP) assists the public and private sectors in their search for creative approaches to funding environmental programs, projects and activities. The EFP uses leveraging and partnerships to extend the reach and impact of its activities.
  • The Environmental Finance Center (EFC) Network - the network consists of nine university- based programs in eight EPA regions EFCs provide technical assistance and analyses to state and local governments and the private sector on managing and financing environmental infrastructure.
  • The Environmental Financing Information Network (EFIN) - information from the network is available via the web site and the phone-in reference line at the EFIN Library

The Guidebook of Financial Tools: Paying for Sustainable Environmental Systems

(April 1999 revision) This Guidebook has been produced by the Environmental Financial Advisory Board and the Environmental Finance Center Network.
