Space Foundation Certified Technology
Space Foundation Certified Technology Products (2008)My husband and I have followed technology innovation for at least a couple decades and have always been fascinated with the innovations coming out of NASA's research and development programs. Coatings, food preparation, even agricultural techniques are part of space travel and survival. NASA makes this intellectual property available for licensing. Hence...the following list of some of NASA's 2008 applications that can inspire you to "check with NASA" to see what's cooking ... and what could enhance your own products and processes.
A NASA -- or "Space Foundation" certification is also available to enhance your marketing strategies.
PS: You will find a number of technologies that enhance "green" performance!

Insight Subluxation StationChiropractic care developed for astronauts uses the Insight Subluxation Station(tm), a neurospinal screening and evaluation system that uses surface electromyography (SEMG) technology originally designed to measure changes in the spinal muscles of astronauts. Chiropractors use the Insight TM to help identify subluxations, or misalignments of the spine, by measuring muscle activity. The Insight Subluxation Station TM measures the electrical flow and charts it for increased accuracy in diagnosis and improved treatment.
Polarized Lens TechnologyNASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory scientists investigated ways to protect human vision against various ranges of harmful radiation from the invisible and visual spectrum. They looked to nature for a solution. How do eagles and other birds of prey protect their eyes from high- energy sunlight they are exposed to on a daily basis? Eagles have droplets of oil in their eyes that filter out all harmful radiation. This filtering process dramatically reduces scattering of light and permits only those wavelengths of light to enter their eyes, which allow the eagle to have high visual clarity. NASA scientists and engineers decided this technology could be used to make sunglass lenses. They simulated natural droplets of oil and incorporated it into a sunglass lens that is now called Eagle Eyes(r).
Radiant Barrier Reflective InsulationEagle Shield is a Radiant Barrier product that can be installed directly on top of existing ceiling insulation in a home to reduce heating and cooling bills. Based on NASA technology originally developed to shield astronauts from extreme temperatures in space, Eagle Shield's cost-saving benefits extend to a variety of applications where heating and cooling efficiency is desired.
Radiant Catalytic Ionization Air & Water PurificationPeople spend more and more time indoors. Unfortunately studies show that the air inside our homes, schools and offices can be far more polluted that the air outside. EcoQuest Radiant Catalytic Ionization (RCI) air purification products offer air purification technology. Products such as FreshAir, Fresh Air To Go, Spectrum, LaundryPure and a range of commercial air purification units use EcoQuest RCI technology to help create healthier indoor environments.
Phase Change MaterialsOutlast Technologies invents and formulates patented phase-change materials, that, when applied to apparel, footwear, bedding and accessories, keeps you more comfortable.
SG-5000 DurometerDurometers, otherwise known as hardness gauges, are used to measure the hardness of non-metallic materials, such as rubber, plastic, foam, and wood. A durometer works by measuring the penetration of the gauges into the material being tested.
Sleep SurfacesThe Tempur material was originally developed by NASA in the 1970s, as a material that would conform to the exact body weight and shape of any astronaut.
Engine Treatment and LubricantsIn the mid 1990s NASA discovered an environmental problem with the material that was being used to lubricate the massive track system on the shuttle mobile launch transporter. Not surprisingly the lubricant requirements are rather extraordinary for this transporter.
Certified Technology Products
Astronaut FoodsAmerican Outdoor Products, Inc. product lines include Astronaut Foods, Backpacker's Pantry, Colorado Spice Company and Salamander Paddling Gear.
DRX9000 True Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression SystemHeight measurements of astronauts taken aboard the Skylab 4 space mission demonstrate how the spine elongates and decompresses when subjected to a micro-gravity environment. Axiom Worldwide's DRX9000 True Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression SystemTM is designed to apply spinal decompressive forces to compressive and degenerative injuries of the spine.
Thermal Protection MaterialsThese NASA/BOEING designed shields reflect the heat from the headers down and away from the cars interior. Combine these heat shields with the thermal heat blankets that are designed for the inside of a race car and you can lower the temperature inside a race car by as much as 40 degrees.
Athletic rehab equipmentThe Shuttle 2000-1 physical therapy and athletic development conditioner, an exercising device that traces its technological lineage to studies performed in the 1960s on "cardiovascular deconditioning," the potential loss of integrity of an astronaut's cardiovascular system due to prolonged exposure to the microgravity environment of space.
Space PenInterested in a pen with a 100 year shelf life? That can't leak? That can write in any position, and in extreme temperatures? NASA was.
Video Analyst SystemIntergraph Solutions Group (ISG) is a professional services and solutions company providing management consulting, technology, and integrated solutions to commercial and government clients.

Handheld Vacuum Enhanced X-Ray Fluorescence AnalyzerBruker Handheld and NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center teamed up to improve a hand held chemical analyzer to serve as a quality control tool for parts destined for the Space Shuttle. The Bruker hand-held X-Ray Fluorescent device (XRF) detects the presence of elements in various materials. The enhancements developed in partnership with NASA, including the addition of an internal vacuum feature, made it possible for the analyzer to identify hard-to-detect elements such as sodium, aluminum, and silicon. Having a portable chemical analyzer enables NASA to conduct field analyses on larger components like Reusable Solid Rocket Motors.
Bruker Handheld now markets the enhanced XRF device for an expanding list of unique applications from brand protection to testing the effectiveness of carpet cleaning methods.
