DRSG is the trade association for companies that provide products and services in the areas of demand response, smart meters and smart grid technologies. DRSG works to educate and provide information to policymakers, utilities, the media, the financial community and stakeholders on how demand response and smart grid technologies such as smart meters can help modernize our electricity system and provide customers with new information and options for managing their electricity use.

Executive Level Members in 2008 included Aclara, Comverge, CPower, Eka Systems, Elster Integrated Solutions, eMeter, EnergySolve, EnerNOC, Google, IBM, Itron, Landis + Gyr, Orion Energy Systems, Sensus Metering Systems, Silver Spring Networks, SmartSynch, SureGrid and Trilliant Networks.

Google and GE made news in 2008 by announcing a collaboration to work on a smart grid solution.

DRSG Hails Congressional Passage of Smart Meter Measure

On October 3, 2008, Congress passed a measure which will put the country on a faster path towards deployment of smart electric meters and the development of a smart electricity grid. The provision establishes a change in the depreciation rate for smart meters and smart grid technologies from the current 20 year period to a 10 year period. The provision was implemented as part of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008.

The accelerated depreciation for meters and other technologies that Congress has passed today will help make the transition to new technologies faster, less costly and more certain.

Smart Meters are Green Meters that Promote Energy Efficiency

A DRSG spokesman noted that DRAM hopes that Congress, as it seeks to address issues like climate change, will recognize that “smart meters are green meters” in that they provide consumers with information and feedback that they have never had before when it comes to electricity – information that has been demonstrated to lead to consumers becoming more energy efficient and more environmentally conscious overall.
