Gateways to Green Building prepares job seekers for Pre-Apprenticeships in energy efficiency, weatherization, energy auditing and other green building careers.

Gateways to Green Building Training Partners

In Gateways to Green Building, trainees will receive expert instruction in green building during Phases IIV from several organizations and their expert, certified trainers. Each training partner is highly qualified, and as a result, graduates will develop certified skills that will be recognized by a wide range of green building and building performance employers.

The Association of Energy Engineers

A network of over 11,000 energy engineering and management professionals, AEE’s mission is to “promote the scientific and educational interests of those engaged in the energy industry and to foster sustainable development.” AEE offers widely recognized training and certification. www.aeecenter.org

Build It Green

Build it Green is a membership based nonprofit organization whose aim is to support energy and resource efficient homes in California. BIG promotes green building by offering professional training, collaboration forums, consumer education, and green product marketing to a range of stakeholders. www.builditgreen.org

Electrical Training Institute (ETI) | International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local II (IBEW)

Sponsored by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 11 the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), ETI conducts rigorous apprentice training programs. Gateways students will be invited to tour the ETI, and IBEW representatives will conduct mock interviews for their apprenticeship program. www.laett.org Www.ibew11.org

California Building Performance Contractors Association (CBPCA)

Funded by the California Public Utilities commission, CBPCA is a non-profit organization that was formed in response to California’s decreasing energy supply. CBPCA offers professional training in energy efficiency, healthier indoor air, and safer, more durable building. CBPCA’s Green Home Energy Upgrade training curriculum includes HVAC systems, attic and wall insulation, air infiltration, duct sealing and moisture control. www.cbpca.org

El Camino College (ECC)

El Camino College will provide Workforce Entry Skills instruction for Gateways students at its Business Training Center in Hawthorne, a part of the El Camino College Community Advancement Department. Upon completion of the course, Gateways participants will be eligible for the Blueprint for Workplace Success Certificate of Workplace Readiness, which was developed by the South Bay Workforce Investment Board. www.elcamino.edu

Century Center for Economic Opportunity (CCEO YouthBuild)

Active for over 30 years, CCEO YouthBuild is a non-profit organization that focuses on leadership development for at-risk youth while providing training in construction trades. CCEO YouthBuild provides job and life-skills training by renovating neglected housing into secure and attractive homes for low to moderate income families. CCEO YouthBuild will provide preapprenticeship construction and career skills training for Gateways participants. YouthBuild program participants will be eligible to receive Home Builders Institute Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate upon completion of the course. www.cceoyouthbuild.org

GRID Alternatives

GRID Alternatives was founded in 2001 with the mission to “empower communities in need by providing renewable energy and energy efficiency services, equipment and training.” By training volunteers to install efficient energy materials such as solar panels and photovoltaic systems, GRID Alternatives is able to provide access to affordable and carbon-neutral options to low-income communities across California. GRID Alternatives will be the supervising hands-on field training and volunteer work by Gateways participants. www.gridalternatives.org

Richard Heath and Associates (RHA)

RHA is a California-based project design and management firm that develops and administers large-scale programs with a commitment to energy efficiency, telecommunications and technical consulting. RHA provides technical training for the implementation of Weatherization projects; commercial industrial and agricultural audits; and residential conservation services audits. www.rhainc.com

US Green Building Council-Los Angeles (USGBC-LA)

As the owner/developers of the LEED® rating system, USGBC is the leading advocate of sustainable building practices in the United States. The mission of its local chapter—USGBC-LA—is to “make the Los Angeles region a better place to live through smarter planning, better public policy, and greener development.” Instructors from USGBC-LA will provide Gateways participants with instruction to develop environmental literacy which will provide a backdrop for the fields green building and sustainable development. www.usgbcla.org

Gateways to Green Building is Administered Locally by the South Bay Workforce Investment Board In Cooperation With Century Center for Economic Opportunity, Inc.
