Low Tech Oil Spill Cleanup Options Call by EPA

EPA administrator, Lisa Jackson is seeking ideas to help find oil spill solutions. "I will spend the next days meeting with folks to bring ideas back," she says.

I've had two calls from leaders in Southern and NE states who want to help with the oil spill. Citizen action will be needed -- the disaster is that huge. Even Lisa Jackson, head of the EPA is asking for "low tech solutions" on their blog.

"So we have to listen to locals, shrimpers, sheriffs, oystermen, emergency managers and others who may have low tech ideas to protect our precious marshes," Jackson says.

Human Hair Aborbs Oil

We all know how porous hair is ... and how it holds our own oil. A San Francisco Bay nonprofit has learned to make mats out of human hair from hair salons to help with oil spills in their area. There are motivated hair salon workers across the country who are willing and able to collect and stuff hair to help in their own way.

Who will take the lead?

Are there hair salons who will provide public hair cuts and collect the hair? Are there hosiery companies who will donate seconds and old inventory for stuffing the air? Are there trucking companies who will transport the hair?

How can we pitch in together to help save this fragile ecosystem, these wildlife, jobs, food source, oil supplies...and our communities?
