Critical Skills Investment For YOUR Career

Career development that provides emerging opportunities in infrastructure, construction, renewable energy and resources.

Booming industries, like mining, and emerging industries, like renewable energy, will get a much-needed boost from skills funding in the Budget.

Australia is investing $200 million in their "Critical Skills Investment Fund."

America is a bit different. There is some training available for the unemployed and undereducated... but most Americans are on their own, or dependent upon their employer for job training.

It doesn't have to be that way. And YOUR FUTURE shouldn't be that limited.

"Training of job-seekers and upskilling of older workers will allow them to capitalize on emerging opportunities in infrastructure, construction, renewable energy and resources." That's the approach taken with the "critical skills" program.

How about taking that same strategy to heart for your own career? After all... who will do a better job of managing your career than... you?

Many career opportunities are based in regional specialty areas. Training advice can be found from your own "independent board."

Apprenticeships Aren't JUST for Young Workers

Many Apprenticeship Kickstart Programs provides training and jobs in traditional trades that are experiencing skills shortages. Unions are big into training and placement in traditional trades.

But with today's technology changing SOOOO rapidly, workers of ANY age can build their own "apprenticeship" to get experience and knowledge first-hand. Many nonprofits and small businesses would be delighted to take on a part-time apprentice -- especially someone who could be a potential employee -- ready to be hired after getting some real-world experience and building a positive relationship with their team.

Young workers "still" get qualified by demonstrating that they're competent in their trade. Right? We really don't have a system that depends on serving a set number of years' we? I know that small businesses are more interested in competence than years!

A focus on actual capabilities -- skills, knowledge and network of industry cohorts -- will help provide skilled labor more quickly in areas where are shortages, and in emerging industries.

Sometimes upgrading your training and qualifications requires taking out a loan to upgrade qualifications through study and/or certification.

"We know that we need to train more Australians and not rely too heavily on skilled migration to solve skills shortages."

That sounds like the controversial immigration discussions taking place. Do we need more engineers and tradespeople? How about upgrading our own skills and knowledge to meet these demanding, technical jobs?

Pssst: That's where the career opportunities are! "STEM" Science, Technology, Engineering and Math -- those are the skills and knowledge mother lode for today's and tomorrow's careers.

But don't forget those people skills: communciations, cooperation, self management, building good working relationships. Those are also in high demand. And you get triple opportunity if you combine those with real technical skills!
