Green Tech Incubation Center with Port of Los Angeles, San Pedro and Wilmington

PortTechLA is a clean technology transfer, incubation and commercialization organization sponsored by the Port of Los Angeles as well as the San Pedro and Wilmington chambers of commerce.

PortTechLA is a public/private non-profit technology center and business incubator operated by a coalition consisting of the City of Los Angeles, Port of Los Angeles and the San Pedro and Wilmington Chambers of Commerce. Its mission is to attract and mentor companies with technologies that will enable the Port of Los Angeles, and ports worldwide, to meet their immediate and future environmental, energy, security and logistics goals.

Transportation, Logistics and Port Innovation

Located in San Pedro, California, adjacent to the Port of Los Angeles, PortTechLA is designed to incubate or accelerate technology company growth through assistance with the development, testing, commercialization, manufacture and marketing of the products and solutions required to ensure the sustainability of the ports of the future.

Affiliating with a business incubator offers companies many advantages. Nationally, 87% of business incubator graduate companies are still in business three years after graduation, compared to only half of non-incubator start-ups. Also, 65% of incubator start-ups have received that all-important third party funding, compared to around 10% of non-incubator companies.

PortTechLA offers these advantages, plus some unique advantages for companies with port and maritime technologies:

  • As a part of the City of Los Angeles' CleanTechLA initiative, PortTechLA has access to the faculties of some of the world's great research universities – USC, UCLA and CalTech – in addition to many City resources.

  • Through a contract with the federally funded Regional Small Business Development Center (SBDC), PortTechLA has been designated a "Special SBDC", specifically designed to assist technology companies grow and create jobs.

  • PortTechLA works very closely with the Port of Los Angeles' Technology Advancement Program (TAP) which is tasked with the responsibility for evaluating, and possibly helping to fund, technologies that will support the Port's Clean Air and Clean Truck Action Plans.

  • The PortTechNetwork (PTN), a monthly meeting hosted by PortTechLA, brings together entrepreneurs, technology company suppliers/consultants, potential funders and end users in a forum for education, discussion and networking.

  • Through event co-sponsorships with the Harbor Association of Industry and Commerce (HAIC), PortTechLA has established relationships with many port tenants who are in need of environmental, security and logistics technologies.

  • The San Pedro and Wilmington Chambers of Commerce, as partners in PortTechLA, are anxious to act as conduits to all the local resources needed by new companies and residents to the harbor area.

PortTechLA welcomes inquiries via its website (http://www.portechla.org), or by calling Milanette at 1-310-832-0028.
