Water Education Foundation

Held each March in Sacramento, the Foundation's annual Executive Briefing features speakers from stakeholder groups, the Legislature and governmental agencies that play important roles in making policy decisions about water. Representatives from the urban, business, farming, environmental and public interest sectors discuss and debate their viewpoints on current water issues at this day-and-a-half briefing. The William R. Gianelli Water Leaders Class is a one-year program that identifies young community leaders from diverse backgrounds, including members of minority and ethnic communities, and educates them about water issues. 2007 Calendar

Celebrate Earth Day

On April 22, 1970, 20 million people across America celebrated the first Earth Day. It was a time when cities were buried under their own smog and polluted rivers caught fire. Now Earth Day is celebrated annually around the globe. Through the combined efforts of the U.S. government, grassroots organizations, and citizens like you, what started as a day of national environmental recognition has evolved into a world-wide campaign to protect our global environment. California is in EPA's Region 9, and here are the 2006 Earth Day events listed for California. We will update links as the 2007 events are announced.

San Diego EarthWorks/San Diego Earth Day

The annual EarthFair in Balboa Park is the largest free annual environmental fair in the world. EarthFair 2007 will be the 18th anniversary. Each year, the EarthFair draws around 60,000 visitors. Produced by 400+ volunteers, EarthFair features more than 200 exhibitors, special theme areas, a Food Pavilion, a special Kids’ Activity Area, five entertainment venues, the Children’s Earth Parade (All Species Welcome) and Alternative Fuel Vehicle Parade and Show.

Review the list of exhibitors. EarthFair exhibiting is open to all types of organizations: non-profit, for-profit, government departments and agencies, individuals, clubs, schools, churches, etc. Costs range from $139 – for a 10' x 10' space for a small non-profit – to $2,625 – for a 10' x 20' double-booth for a large corporation. You can download an EarthFair Exhibitor Packet beginning January 1; study the materials carefully. If you decide you would like to participate, fill out the Exhibitor Form and mail it to EarthWorks with your payment.

You'll see lots of stuff to buy at EarthFair. But there is one difference between EarthFair and the Mall -- the profits from all sales at EarthFair go to support nonprofit organizations (required by city rules concerning sales on public lands). In fact, for many of the smaller non-profits, EarthFair can be a significant source of funding for their activities.
