As a person who returned to college as an adult to complete my basic studies, I find that both interesting and misleading. It's interesting in that people are most enthused when they are "newbies"...and enthusiasm is a big factor is entrepreneurial strategy. On the other hand...wisdom might be a bit shy of what's needed for sustainable business development. That's where the new approach to business training comes in.

A "green MBA" fosters some of the sustainable wisdom that helps shape businesses that serve the public's best interests, as well as develop hard-nosed business strategies for survival and organic growth. New College of California is committed to education in support of a just, sacred, and sustainable world. The New College of California in the Bay Area is offering an accredited Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in Sustainable Enterprise. Dubbed the "Green MBA," its curriculum comprises basic business fundamentals that provide essential general business skills, courses that focus on sustainability and entrepreneurship, and a core leadership series.

The New College of California's MBA is a full-time, two-year, four-semester program that promotes financial viability, ecological sustainability and social justice. It uses a project-oriented learning approach to integrate entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial skills with critical thinking and leadership capacities.

In 2002 they founded the school dedicated to teaching business in the context of environmental and social responsibility. In both programs, students work with distinguished faculty from top business schools to master proven sustainability practices. The Social Enterprise Group has teamed up with the Bainbridge Graduate Institute to apply Gifford and Libba Pinchot's highly effective business plan accelerator to social enterprise. Teams of up to five participants working on the same social enterprise idea will spend three months developing their social enterprise business plan while learning and applying important concepts such as: using financials as a decision making tool, identifying appropriate types of financing, market research and marketing, all within the context of balancing mission and profit.
