California Greenhouse Gas Chart - 2007
Greenhouse Gas Emissions InventoryWhere's the 80 ton gorilla in greenhouse gas in California? Are we putting our solutions where the problem is?This newly revised chart shows that TRANSPORTATION produces 39% of California's greenhouse gas emissions. ELECTRICITY with a combined 28% of the pie comes close behind. And when you add business GHGs together, and deduct Commercial, Residential and Misc (9%) the remaining GHGs from business activities equal another 24%. So residential vs. commercial/industrial electricity and transportation figures are clouded by how this report is broken out. But when you think about it, ALL business activity is really supposed to support human activities...whether it is tending a forest, milking a cow or refining gold for a wedding ring. The question comes down to how we can reduce overall GHGs...and asking if transportation of goods and people to and fro across the country is worth the pollution and greenhouse gases that are being created. However the pie is sliced, our business GHGs are the majority of our society's direct output. What can we do about that?
